about

Homeland / Dai'mokh marks 23 February 2024, the tragic 80th anniversary of the deportation of the Ingush and Chechens by Joseph Stalin in 1944 (the story also told in my song The Moon and the Pilot).

It is an iconic song for the Ingush and the Chechens, a heartfelt lament of a deportee with a haunting tune that somehow combines longing and melancholy with a bright, driving rhythm. The melody is traditional, and the lyrics are by Khamzat Osmiev, translated into English by myself, with an original refrain in Ingush.

The track features instrumental contributions from Jonny Dyer, Katrina Davies and Jason Emberton (who also produced, mixed and mastered the track).

Daria Kulesh Kings Langley, UK

Described by Mike Harding as “one of the finest voices and one of the most intriguing and interesting songwriters”, Daria Kulesh has toured extensively, leaving her audiences "completely spellbound". Born in Russia but UK-based for 15 years, she fearlessly explores her roots and family history in Ingushetia (North Caucasus) with songs that "aren't just sung, but lived".
