about

Long Lost Home - the story of the Ingush People

Daria's Ingush Grandmother and Russian Grandfather fell in love. What could possibly be wrong about that? Yet, centuries of oppression and injustice, conservative traditions and colonial prejudices left their mark, making their union a scandal. Can love win? Can a fractured family be healed across generations? Can a wounded nation find peace? Can songs and stories really make a difference?

Daria's soaring, evocative vocals and vibrant and colourful stories and songs take you on a journey, both historic and personal, through the past in tribute to and celebration of her grandmother and her family and their long-lost homeland of Ingushetia. Deep in the Caucasus Mountains, this is an ancient land of breathtaking beauty and harrowing history, fascinating folklore and age-old traditions. During the Caucasus Wars of the 19th century it was conquered by and absorbed into Russia. In 1944, falsely accused of collaboration with the Nazis, it was subject to brutal deportation under the orders of Stalin and, in 1992, devastated by ethnic conflict. Despite all this darkness, the album is uplifting and inspiring. Long Lost Home is a story for our troubled times, exploring themes of displacement and (in)tolerance, identity and integrity, humanity and strength in the face of adversity, hope against hate; it's "an album for everyone", according to Northern Sky Magazine.
